Urban Legend formed in New York City in 1998 with four vocalists: Damion Hall, Mary Griffin, Jay Calvert, and John Harker. They worked in R&B, soul, and funk, and their debut album 'Legends Never Die' came out the following year. That record included 'Comin' Back,' which became their best-known song. They released two more albums, 'One Nation Under a Groove' in 2001 and 'Across the Board' in 2003.
Their sound drew from vocal groups like Boyz II Men and The Temptations, but 'Comin' Back' had a different feel that some listeners found a departure from traditional R&B. They were a vocal band first, built around those four voices rather than a single frontperson or a backing band.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
