Ik zat op haar te wachten
in café "de doopvont"
de kelner deed alsof
hij maar weinig Vlaams verstond
toen ik luid begon te hoesten
riep hij "Wacht nog is een second"
en hij bracht me een lauwe koffie
met een natte suikerklont
Waar zou ze nu toch blijven, dacht ik,
ze maakt het wel erg bont
misschien is ze verongelukt
of minstens zwaargewond
Maar twas allemaal zo erg niet
mijn vrees bleek ongegrond
want daar verscheen mijn dametje
goed en wel gezond
en wat zag ze der weer stralend uit
tesamen met haar hond
wat ben ik toch gezegend
en een echte bofkont
dat God zijn mooiste engel
naar de aarde zond
ze was het wachten waard
de grote wijzer rond
Ik weet niet of ze doorhad
dat ze me vreselijk opwond
het bloed vloog in mijn aders rond
als kogels aan het front
als ik mezelf niet tegenhield
denk ik dat ik haar verslond
maar ik zou het me nooit vergeven
als ik een haartje van haar schond
en net toen ik wou fluisteren
hoe mooi ik haar wel vond
vroeg de kelner wat ze drinken wou
vanop de achtergrond
maar de oorlog was begonnen
het vuur zat aan de lont
kzag de zon hoe ze gloeiend
wegzonk in de grond
en de maan opende blozend
een nieuwe avondstond
mijn hart hing in mijn schoenen
en mijn ziel aan het plafond
en toen ze me liet proeven
van haar lippen op mijn mond
vloog ik gelijk een albatros
over de horizont.
