Archive material and source history
Uriah Heep formed in London in 1967, evolving from an earlier band called Spice. The original lineup featured Mick Box on guitar, Ken Hensley on keyboards and vocals, Paul Newton on bass, and Alex Napier on drums. They signed with Vertigo Records and released their self-titled debut album in 1970, which established their heavy, progressive rock sound.
In the early 1970s, albums like 'Salisbury,' 'Demons and Wizards,' and 'Sweet Freedom' brought them wider recognition. Their live shows were known for Hensley's keyboard solos and Box's energetic guitar work. The band's song 'Cursed Road' appears among their notable tracks.
Over the decades, Uriah Heep's lineup changed frequently, but Mick Box remained a constant. They released more than twenty studio albums, including 'Abominog' in 1982 and 'Sea of Light' in 1995. Their current lineup includes Box, vocalist Bernie Shaw, keyboardist Phil Lanzon, bassist Dave Rimmer, and drummer Russell Gilbrook.
