Archive material and source history
Us Brek formed in Rio de Janeiro in the mid-1990s with Nego Reis on vocals, Luizão on bass, Mauro Antônio on drums, and Jorge Caetano on guitar. They worked with producer Kassin early on. Their debut album came out in 2000 and included the track "Fogo Contra Fogo."
They put out more records like "Eu Curto" in 2003 and a live album from Botafogo in 2005. The lineup shifted over time, Luizão left around 2007, and Marcão joined on bass. Nego Reis, Mauro Antônio, and Jorge Caetano have stayed with the band through most of it.
In 2012, there was some noise about them possibly copying another artist's song called "No Samba," but that got sorted out. Their music pulls from samba, funk, and hip-hop, sometimes touching on reggae or soul. They've had songs placed in films and ads.
