Us Ordinários formed in Fortaleza, Brazil in 1987 with vocalist and guitarist João Jatahy, bassist André Müller, and drummer Dino. Their name translates to "The Ordinary Ones," which fit their unpretentious approach. They released their debut album "Terra Incognita" in 1990, featuring aggressive guitars and socially conscious lyrics that didn't align with mainstream trends at the time.
Their music often tackled poverty, corruption, and social inequality with a confrontational attitude. The song "Mata o Ladrão de Gravata" became particularly well-known for its direct criticism of political corruption and sparked considerable debate. They followed their debut with albums like "Dois Mundos" in 1995 and "O Escolhido" in 1998.
While their early work faced challenges finding an audience, their energetic live performances helped build recognition. They continued releasing music into the 2000s with albums including "Cara e Coragem" in 2002 and "Nosso Lado Selvagem" in 2005.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
