UsCafuçu formed in 1999 in Recife, with Silvério Pessoa on vocals and percussion, Marília Viegas on accordion and vocals, Pedro Alexis on guitar, Rodrigo Maciel on bass, and Bruno Burgos on drums. They worked with cumbia rhythms and pop elements, which drew some criticism from traditionalists who felt they were straying too far from the genre's roots.
Their song "A Cúmbia Chegará" became widely known, helping them reach listeners outside Brazil. Other tracks like "Feitiço" and "Pegando Fogo" kept their sound lively and rhythmic, anchored by Viegas's accordion lines and Pessoa's vocal energy.
They faced financial difficulties early on while trying to establish themselves in the industry. The band kept recording and performing, sticking with their mix of cumbia and contemporary touches rather than shifting toward a purist approach.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
