Archive material and source history
Vahrzaw formed in Norway in the late 1980s with Ivar Bjørnson on vocals and guitar, Samoth on bass, and Nocturno Culto on drums. Their sound was raw and aggressive, and they became known for lyrics that drew both fascination and condemnation. The song "...and The Weapon Is Sodomy" sparked particular debate about censorship and artistic expression, with some countries banning their albums.
Samoth and Nocturno Culto left in 1991, replaced by guitarist Euronymous and drummer Hellhammer. Euronymous was murdered in 1993, and Vahrzaw disbanded shortly after.
Their discography includes early releases such as "Dominium Missae Aephageon" from 1991 and "Burzum" from 1992. Other songs like "Black Resplendent Waters" and "From Where the Midnight Whispers Call" reflect their uncompromising approach to underground metal.
