Valaquia formed in Transylvania in 2009, led by vocalist and lyricist Arioch. Their music mixes dark metal with symphonic arrangements, and their lyrics often draw from folklore and mythology. Their debut album 'Carpathia' came out in 2012, followed by 'Dark Matter' in 2014 and 'Reign of Shadows' in 2017.
Their best-known track is 'Strange Carrie,' a ballad about a woman who vanishes from a village. The band's lineup has included guitarists Vlad and Edward, bassist Bogdan, and drummer Alin at various points.
In 2017, Valaquia left their original record label. Some critics have taken issue with the dark themes in their music, but they've kept working on their own terms.
