Valdinho Paes grew up in Vila Maria Zélia, a neighborhood in São Paulo. His early music drew from samba and bossa nova, and he started writing songs when he was young.
In 1974, he released his first album, 'Vitorioso,' which included the song 'Se Amanhã Você Vier me Procurar.' That track became his most recognizable work. He kept recording through the 1970s and 1990s, putting out albums like 'Sonhando com Você' and 'Lendas e Contos.'
His lyrics often dealt with love and longing, as you can hear in songs like 'Saudade D'ocê' and 'A Natureza Das Coisas.' He worked regularly with guitarist Leandro Ayres. Some of his material ran into trouble with censors during Brazil's military government, and later, one of his albums drew criticism for its lyrics.
