Vamp formed in Bucharest in 1990, with guitarist Cornel Ilie and bassist Sorin Patrascu at the core. They brought in keyboardist Liviu Hojda and drummer Adrian Despot to round out the lineup. Their first album, simply called "Vamp," came out in 1992.

Their music pulled from gothic rock and synth-pop, with a Romanian folk touch that gave it a local flavor.

They kept recording through the 90s with albums like "Cantece Alchimice" and "Stigmata." Liviu Hojda died in 2007, but the band had already established themselves as a distinct presence in Romania's alternative scene.
