Van Gogh formed in Zagreb in 1986 with Davor Gobac on vocals, Robert Amulić on guitar, Hrvoje Rupčić on drums, Fedor Boić on keyboards, and Zlatko Bebek on bass. Their sound mixed rock with atmospheric keyboards and Gobac's distinctive voice. They released their debut album 'Stražari sreće' in 1987, followed by 'Tamo daleko' in 1989, which included the title track that became one of their best-known songs.
Their music from that period, like 'Tamo daleko' and 'Za kim zvona zvone,' had a reflective quality that connected with listeners. The band's activities were interrupted by the Croatian War of Independence in 1991, with Gobac serving in the army while other members worked on separate projects.
Van Gogh reunited for anniversary shows in 2016. Songs such as 'Apsolutno ne' and 'Buldozer' remain part of the Croatian rock landscape, played on radio and at concerts years after their original release.
