In het begin was het donker.
Er was geen zon en er was geen maan,
er was geen zee om in te zwemmen,
er was geen land om op te staan.
De hemel was zwart, de aarde was leeg.
Maar plotseling stak God het licht aan,
toen scheen de zon en het werd licht;
's nachts kwamen sterren aan de hemel,
want dat vond God een mooi gezicht.
De hemel werd blauw, maar de aarde was leeg.
En God verdeelde toen de aarde
in heuvels, meren, zee en strand;
toen was de zee voor alle vissen
en voor de dieren was het land.
Op de heuvels bloeiden bloemen,
er zwommen zwanen in het meer,
er liepen herten door de heide
en in de bossen sliep een beer.
De hemel was blauw, de aarde was groen.
Maar op een dag zag God dit alles
en vond de aarde niet volmaakt;
en daarom heeft hij toen als laatste
er nog iets prachtigs bij gemaakt:
Hij maakte een man en Hij maakte een vrouw
en God maakte mij en God maakte jou
