Archive material and source history
Vanderlei Banci formed in São Paulo in the early 1970s with singer Vanderlei Banci, guitarist José Roberto Bertrami, bassist Beto Simas, and drummer Celso Pixinga. Their self-titled debut album came out in 1973 and included the song "Doce É Sentir," which became widely known in Brazil.
Their music mixed Brazilian rhythms with a more introspective feel, and Banci wrote most of the lyrics. The band cited influences like Bob Dylan, the Beatles, Chico Buarque, and Caetano Veloso. They released two more albums, "Como uma Nuvem" in 1974 and "Ondas" in 1975.
The group disbanded in 1976. They reunited for some concerts in 2007, and "Doce É Sentir" has stayed in rotation on Brazilian radio over the decades.
