VeggieTales started in 1993 when Phil Vischer and Mike Nawrocki, two Christians, wanted to make faith-based entertainment for kids. Their first video, 'Where's God When I'm Scared?', did well enough to get the series going. The show used vegetables as characters, with Bob the Tomato and Larry the Cucumber as the main faces, and mixed simple animation with songs that tried to be catchy.
Songs like 'The Promised Land' and 'God Is Bigger' were part of the mix, usually with straightforward messages. The music wasn't one style, it could sound like pop or gospel depending on the episode. Other characters like Junior Asparagus and Archibald Asparagus showed up in stories that were meant to be both funny and teach something.
In 2003, Vischer and Nawrocki left the series, and it kept going with different people in charge. NBCUniversal bought it in 2015 and changed the animation a bit. The show's tone stayed mostly the same, focused on being wholesome for children.
