Véio Rock formed in São Paulo in 1986 with André Christovam on vocals, Marco Túlio on guitar, Sérgio Santiago on bass, and Ronaldo Silva on drums. They put out their first album in 1988 and followed it with records like 'Café Praga' in 1991 and 'Sobrevivendo no Inferno' in 1994.
Their 1997 album 'Estado Mental' gave them their most recognized song, the title track that became something of an anthem. Another track from their catalog, 'Medo,' also shows up among their most played songs. The band's sound pulled from rock and punk but had some Brazilian rhythmic touches underneath.
They kept recording into the 2000s with 'Sobrevento' in 2000. Their lyrics often dealt with social and personal themes, which sometimes drew criticism from more conservative listeners. The raw, direct quality of their music gave it a particular edge in Brazil's rock scene of the '90s.
