Velha Coruja formed in Fortaleza, Brazil in the late 1990s with Flávio Guimarães on vocals, Felipe Cazaux on guitar, Marcos Lobão on bass, and Marcelo Costa on drums. Their debut album came out in 2001, followed by others like 'Ilusão de Ótica' in 2003 and 'A Divina Comédia Humana' in 2006.
Their song 'Alma Suja' became particularly well-known, though it's not among their current top tracks. Today you're more likely to hear songs like 'Sobre o Tempo' or 'Chá de Cogumelo' from their catalog. Their music has been described as blending folk, rock, and Brazilian rhythms.
Early on, their sound didn't fit neatly into mainstream categories, which made getting recognition difficult. They faced some criticism over their lyrics and stances on social issues, but kept making music through those challenges.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
