Velha Escola dos Zorrilhos formed in Rio de Janeiro in the early 1990s, a group of friends playing classic rock and blues in small clubs. The core lineup settled as vocalist and guitarist Zé Pretinho, bassist Marcelão, drummer Xandão, and lead guitarist Bebel. Their name translates to 'Old School of the Skunks.'
Their debut album 'Não Aguento Mais' came out in 1995, featuring songs like 'Hey Garota' and 'Sob Um Céu Azul de Anil.' They followed it with records like 'O Grande Circo' in 1998, 'Velha Escola' in 2002, and '40:20' in 2014. Other tracks in their catalog include 'Tomas É de Som,' 'Tornado,' and 'Umbral.'
They built a following through live performances, playing a straightforward rock sound with blues touches. The band's music connected with Brazilian audiences without much studio polish or production fuss.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
