Velhas Virtudes formed in São Paulo in 1997 with Helio Flanders on vocals and guitar, Rodrigo Tavares on guitar, André Gabeh on bass, and Otávio Henrique on drums. Their first album came out in 1999, simply called 'Velhas Virtudes.'
They put out 'Cuidar do Amor' in 2004, which gave them the title track that became one of their better-known songs. Other tracks like 'Dizeres' and 'Perambulando' show their mix of folk and pop elements within Brazilian popular music.
In 2002 they released 'Brasileiro,' an album that leaned into folklore themes, and followed it with 'Ser Tão Velho Assim' in 2009. Their sound has stayed rooted in those early São Paulo sessions, keeping a steady presence rather than chasing trends.
