Archive material and source history
Velocetts formed in Los Angeles in the late 1990s, playing a kind of garage rock with more reflective lyrics than you might expect from that scene. Their lineup included Johnny Vettes on vocals and guitar, Mikey Velocity on guitar, Jimmy Swift on bass, and Patty Powerplay on drums. They put out their first album, 'Dive In,' in 1999, followed by 'Velocity' in 2001.
Their third album, '17,' came out in 2003 and gave them their biggest song, the title track. It was a slower, more haunting piece about teenage life that connected with a lot of listeners. Other songs from their catalog include 'A cura,' 'Ao Menos Uma Vez,' 'As Cores,' and 'Belle.'
Johnny Vettes left the band in 2004, and Mikey Velocity took over as the main vocalist. They released another album called 'Headstrong' in 2006. The band went on hiatus around 2010.
