Velveteen came together in Los Angeles in the late 1990s. Their first single, 'Firework Special,' got some attention and helped them build a following. The band had four members: Willow Ashton sang, Oliver James played guitar, Theo Carter was on bass, and Mia Rodriguez handled drums.

They put out three albums, starting with 'Elysium' which included 'Firework Special.' Later records were called 'Astral Projection' and 'Celestial.' Other songs people remember include 'Part Of The Game' and 'Plastic Cups.'

Ashton had some well-documented struggles with mental health that affected the band's activity at times. They also faced criticism for being vocal about politics. The group's lineup wasn't always stable.
