Archive material and source history
Velvetine formed in Los Angeles in the early 2000s around vocalist Janna Cohen and guitarist Jonny Pierce. Their debut album 'The Great Divide' came out in 2005, with the title track becoming their most recognizable song. That track also got a notable remix treatment from Seven Lions.
Cohen left the band in 2007, and Pierce continued using the Velvetine name for solo work. They released several more albums including 'Songs from the Glasshouse' in 2008, 'Magenta' in 2012, and 'Desolation Rose' in 2016.
In 2018, Pierce faced domestic violence allegations that led to a canceled tour and a break from music. He denied the charges, and the band eventually resumed activities.
