Venados Del Valle

Venados Del Valle formed in Los Angeles in the early 1990s, with Javier Martínez Gastelum on vocals and guitar, José Luis Rodríguez on bass, Francisco Javier Morales on guitar, and Sergio Meza on drums. They worked with traditional Mexican folk sounds, but their lyrics often dealt with heavier themes of poverty and injustice.

Their 1998 album 'Canciones de Presidio' included the song 'Canción de Un Preso,' which became their most recognizable track. The album's direct storytelling connected with listeners, though some critics questioned whether their material romanticized difficult subjects. Other songs like 'El Viejo Roble' and 'Con Cartitas y Palabras' showed their range within the folk style.

They kept recording through the 2000s with albums like 'La Historia del Hijo Desobediente' and 'El Otro Lado,' and released a live recording in 2004. Their later work included 'Historia de una Leyenda' in 2006 and 'El Último Canto' in 2008.
