Verbs formed in Los Angeles around 2010 with Ethan Hayes on vocals and guitar, Jake Miller on bass, and Alex Rodriguez on drums. Their debut album 'Echoes of Dissent' came out in 2012, featuring the single 'Can You Hear Me?' which got some attention. Rodriguez left the band in 2014, and Emily Carter joined as their new drummer.
They put out a few more albums after that, including 'The Weight of Words' in 2015 and 'Tides' in 2017. Their 2020 album 'Ashes to Dust' had a more stripped-down sound compared to their earlier work. Other songs in their catalog include 'What You Rock Now,' 'Expensive,' and 'Love Triangle.'
There was some legal trouble in 2016 when another songwriter accused them of plagiarism, but the case was eventually resolved in the band's favor. They've kept making music since, with Hayes generally handling most of the writing and the whole group working on arrangements together.
