Giuseppe Verdi came from Busseto, Italy, and became one of the 19th century's most important opera composers. His early work showed the influence of Rossini and Donizetti, but he developed his own approach with strong melodies and emotional directness. Some of his first operas were criticized as unoriginal, and his support for Italian unification made him unpopular with Austrian authorities.
Later works such as 'Rigoletto' in 1851, 'Il Trovatore,' and 'La Traviata' in 1853 brought him wider recognition. He often worked with librettists like Francesco Maria Piave and Temistocle Solera.
He kept writing into his later years with operas including 'Aida' in 1871, 'Otello' in 1887, and 'Falstaff' in 1893. His operas are still performed regularly, known for their dramatic intensity and psychological detail rather than formal innovation.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
