Vert formed with Anya Volkov on vocals and guitar, Liam Blackwood on bass, and Ethan James on drums. They put out their first album 'Abnegation' in 2017, followed by 'Resurgence' in 2019 and 'Catharsis' in 2022. Their songs like 'Perverted Little Boys And Girls' and 'Age Old' have a dark, melodic feel that draws from post-punk and alternative rock.

In 2018, drummer Ethan James left the band after misconduct accusations, which led to some canceled tour dates. A few years later, in 2021, the group released a political statement about authoritarianism that stirred up debate among their listeners. They kept recording through it, with 'Catharsis' arriving in 2022.

Their music tends to be brooding and introspective, with Volkov's vocals often described as haunting over driving guitars. Tracks such as 'Black Blood' and 'Body Glitter' carry that atmospheric weight. They've been compared to bands like The Cure and Joy Division, but Vert's sound remains their own, a mix of raw energy and ethereal melody that doesn't tidy things up.
