Vetamadre

Vetamadre formed in Lima, Peru in 1996 with singer-guitarist Jose Gaona, bassist Ernesto Neyra, drummer Raul Suarez, and keyboardist Rodrigo Vera. Their name translates to "Mother Vein," which they said reflected their connection to Peruvian soil. Their debut album "Simple" came out in 1999, and the title track became something of an anthem. They've recorded songs like "25 Muñecas," "Amanecer Ciego," and "Através."

In 2005, bassist Ernesto Neyra was diagnosed with cancer. The band continued touring and recording with a replacement bassist during that period. Their lyrics sometimes touched on social and political topics, which drew both supporters and critics.

Their discography includes eight studio albums over about two decades, with records like "Vetamadre" in 2002, "Sangre" in 2007, and "Indeleble" in 2013. The current lineup includes Gaona, Suarez, Vera, and bassist Manuel Sanguinetti.
