Vexus came together in São Paulo in the early 2000s, a Brazilian metal band that drew from black metal, death metal, and thrash. Their sound wasn't easy to pin down, but it had a particular darkness to it. The vocalist and lyricist Soter handled most of the writing, with guitarists Kalavera and Morgoth, bassist Baal, and drummer Astaroth rounding out the lineup at various points.
They put out a debut album called 'In the Name of the Night,' then followed it with 'The Wrath of the Unholy.' In 2010 they released the album 'A Noite Acabou,' which included the title track and songs like 'Abstrato' and 'Mundo Real.' That record got them more attention in Brazil's underground metal circles.
Some of their lyrics touched on despair and occult themes, which occasionally drew criticism from religious groups. There was a show in 2012 that got cut short, but the details around it are hazy. They kept playing and recording, though they never really broke into mainstream metal. Their music stayed rooted in that São Paulo scene, more about atmosphere and heaviness than hooks.
