Via Negromonte formed in 1986 in Salvador, Brazil, with Carlinhos Brown as their frontman. Their debut album came out the following year. The band's music mixed rock with reggae and funk, and songs like "Preconceito" and "Meu Mundo e Nada Mais" became well-known. They worked with artists including Gilberto Gil and Caetano Veloso.
Their 1993 album "Raiz do Tempo" brought Brazilian rhythms into their sound while keeping the social themes in their lyrics. The band's lineup included bassist Antonio Carlos, guitarist Ramon Cruz, and drummer Didi Gomes alongside Brown.
Via Negromonte's songs often addressed issues like racism and inequality, which sometimes drew criticism. They kept performing and recording through the years, with tracks such as "Eu Não Sei Lê" and "Fúria" in their catalog.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
