Vic Damone was born Vito Farinola in Brooklyn. At 17, he won a talent contest and was discovered by bandleader Sammy Kaye, which led to regular appearances on the radio show "Kaye's Bandstand." He went solo in 1947, signing with Mercury Records.
His recording of "The More I See You" became his signature hit, selling over two million copies. Other songs like "A Day In The Life Of a Fool," "Again," and "It's Impossible" were staples of his repertoire. He recorded more than 50 albums, including "This Is Vic Damone" and "Swingin' Damone."
In the 1950s, his romantic relationships with actresses Pier Angeli and Diahann Carroll drew media attention. Later, he did some acting in films and television, and performed on Broadway. He died in 2018.
