Vicente de Paula came from the Amazon rainforest and made music that reflected that place. His songs often dealt with environmental issues and indigenous rights, using traditional Amazonian melodies mixed with contemporary Brazilian sounds.
In 1981 he released "O Sonho Bom de Chico Mendes," a song dedicated to the slain environmental activist. It became something of an anthem for those concerned about deforestation in the region.
He worked with other musicians including guitarist Fábio Furtado, drummer Roberto Peniche, and flutist Sebastião Tapajós. His albums included "A Terra Prometida" in 1979, "Amazonas: A Canção da Floresta" in 1987, and "Canções para o Povo da Floresta" in 2004.
