Vicente Fernández was born in Guadalajara, Jalisco in 1940. He started singing with a mariachi group when he was fourteen, and over decades of recording, his voice became one of the most recognizable sounds in Mexican music. Songs like 'Por Tu Maldito Amor' and 'La Ley Del Monte' were staples, and his version of the traditional birthday song 'Las Mañanitas' turned into a national custom.
He recorded more than a hundred albums, including 'Volver, Volver' in 1975 and 'El Rey' in 1981. His son Alejandro Fernández sometimes appeared on his records, and he worked with other singers like Joan Sebastian. The mariachi band that backed him for years was called El Mariachi Azteca.
Fernández kept performing into his later years, releasing an album called 'A Mis 80's' in 2020. He died in December 2021 at age 81.
