Vicente Fidélis came from Itapetim, Pernambuco, where he grew up with the sounds of forró, baião, and xote. He moved to São Paulo in the early 1970s and started playing in bars there. His self-titled debut album came out in 1975, and it included the song "Filho Pródigo," which became his most well-known work.
"Filho Pródigo" is a ballad about someone leaving home and returning later, changed. The song connected with listeners across Brazil. Another track people remember is "Talento." In the 1980s, some of his views on social issues drew criticism while others appreciated that he spoke about them.
