que bajó del cielo un once de septiembre
allá en lo más alto de las altas torres
se nubló de golpe todo el horizonte
desde una ventana miraba las llamas
vio llegar de frente la muerte anunciada
rezó un padrenuestro como si llorara
besó aquella imagen siempre venerada
sintió que la vida no valía nada.
El indio Juan Diego salió de Tlaxcala
y fue como tantos espaldas mojadas
trabajo a destajo donde había plata
igual que si fuera una bestia de carga
en todo ese tiempo solo tuvo un sueño
tener su tarjeta de estar en el censo
nunca firmó nada, nunca hubo papeles
que dejaran rastro de su propia muerte
por eso Juan Diego se murió dos veces.
En casa le guardan las fotografías
que les fue enviando para la familia
montado a caballo fregando platos
sentado en un parque nadando en un lago
la última de todas a los pocos días
en una cocina muerto de la risa
con un gorro blanco ¿será cocinero?
