Víctor Martarele formed his band in 2005 with bassist Bruno Caliman and drummer Jorge Nogueira. They're from the Morro do Borel neighborhood in Rio de Janeiro. Their breakthrough came much later, in 2017, with the single 'Começar De Novo (Vai, Vai, Vai).' The song's hopeful lyrics and catchy melody connected with listeners, and an album of the same name followed in 2018.
That success brought more attention, including accusations of plagiarism from critics who heard similarities to other artists' work. Martarele denied the claims. The band's music often blends Brazilian rhythms with pop and rock, as heard on songs like 'Por Favor...'
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
