Victor Wooten

Victor Wooten grew up in Hampton, Virginia, where his older brother Reggie, a drummer, first got him playing bass. He found early inspiration in bassists like Jaco Pastorius, Bootsy Collins, and Stanley Clarke. In 1988, he joined Béla Fleck's progressive bluegrass group the Flecktones, appearing on albums like 'Flight of the Cosmic Hippo' and 'UFO Tofu'.

Wooten has also recorded his own material, with solo albums such as 'A Show of Hands' and 'Soul Circus'. His playing draws from jazz, funk, and rock, and he has worked with artists including Stanley Clarke, Marcus Miller, and the Dave Matthews Band. Some of his songs, like 'Back To India' and 'Higher Law', reflect a broader musical curiosity.

In 2006, he traveled to India with a group of musicians, an experience that informed later work. He continues to record and perform, maintaining a presence both as a solo artist and with the Flecktones.
