Victtor Hugo formed in Porto Alegre, Brazil in the late 1990s. The band included vocalist and guitarist Victtor Hugo, bassist Tico Santta Cruz, drummer Paulinho Fonseca, and guitarist Edgard Scandurra. They faced financial difficulties early on, struggling to find label support.
In 2005, their song "Fairplay" became a national hit in Brazil. The track's raw energy connected with listeners and brought the band wider attention. They released several albums including "V" in 2006, "Ao Vivo em São Paulo" in 2008, and "Música para Ouvir no Escuro" in 2011.
A 2007 concert in São Paulo saw clashes between fans and security guards, raising questions about crowd safety at their shows. The band's lyrics often dealt with personal and social themes, maintaining an introspective quality alongside their rock sound.
