Viegas formed in 2000 in Ribeirão Preto, São Paulo, a group of friends who wanted to make music about education. Their first single, 'Liberta Para Aprender,' caught on with its message about learning differently, written by lead singer Paulo Viegas. The band includes Paulo, Fabrício Viegas on guitar, Tiago Arrais on bass, Bruno Morais on drums, and André Giunta on keyboards.
They've put out albums like Tempo de Aprender in 2003 and A Escola que Eu Quero in 2012, with songs such as 'Posso Ser' and 'Outras Vidas' in their catalog. Their music has been used in Brazilian schools, and their shows draw students and teachers together.
Some conservative groups have criticized their lyrics as too idealistic or challenging to authority. But Viegas keeps playing, with Paulo Viegas leading the band through songs that talk about education in plain terms.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
