Viktor & the Blood came out of London's punk scene in the late 1970s with Viktor Appleton on vocals, Andy Colquhoun on guitar, Colin Burgess on bass, and Dave The Rave on drums. They put out two albums, 'Kicks Out on a Saturday Night' in 1978 and 'Blood & Thunder' the following year. The title track from that first record became something of a standard for the era's raw, restless energy.
Their abrasive sound and confrontational lyrics drew criticism from various corners, but Appleton wasn't much for compromise. The band didn't last long, breaking up around 1980 amid internal tensions and personal troubles. What's left is those two records and a handful of songs that still get played when people want that particular kind of late-70s London punk noise.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
