Vila Reggae formed in 2003 in Vila Velha, Brazil, when a few friends started playing reggae together. Their first single, "Abraço Pro Mar," came out in 2006 and caught on locally, partly because it spoke to the coastal life they knew.
They've kept at it with albums like Acorda in 2008 and Paz Sem Fronteiras in 2011. Songs like "Deixa ela Dançar" and "Jeito de Ser" show their knack for straightforward reggae grooves. In 2012, some lyrics on the track "Colarinho Branco" drew accusations of racism, which the band disputed, saying they were aiming at police violence.
The group includes Rafa Banze on vocals and guitar, Rodrigo Magal on bass, Sergio Simões on drums, and a few others. They've played shows around Brazil and put out records steadily, like Pra Toda Vida in 2015 and Solto in 2018.
