Vila Vintém formed in Belo Horizonte in 2006, drawing from choro, samba, and jazz. They followed it with live albums and studio work like 'De Volta ao Começo' in 2014.
Their song 'A Bailarina e o Elefante' became a hit in 2011. Other tracks like 'Bobo Atirador' and 'Corpos Celestes' show their mix of Brazilian styles with jazz and pop. The arrangements tend to be intricate, with soulful melodies and rhythmic drive.
Founding member Rodrigo Tavares left in 2014, which led to a brief pause. The band regrouped with new players and kept recording. Some listeners felt their later material leaned more commercial, but they continued putting out albums like 'Em Concerto' in 2018.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
