Vilis

Vilis is an experimental electronic group that formed in 2016. Their track '4:11' became something of a calling card, a drifting piece that builds slowly with synthesizers and sparse vocals. They've also released songs like 'Darkstalker' and 'Death / Mortem' that work in similar territory, atmospheric and patient.

The band's name comes from an old Latvian word for 'wave,' which fits the way their music tends to flow and shift. Their debut EP was called 'Echoes of the Void,' and they put out an album in 2019 that shared the title '4:11' with their most recognized track. The core members include Elias Moralis on synthesizer and piano, Sofia Samson on vocals, and Damien Dubois handling percussion and sound design.

Their sound pulls from ambient and techno, but it doesn't settle into straightforward dance patterns. It's more about mood and texture, with tracks like '8:22' and 'Devil / Diablous' unfolding at their own pace. They've kept at it without much concern for whether it fits neatly into what's currently popular in electronic music.
