The Village Singers were a Japanese folk group that started in 1965. They had four members: Shozo Sawada on lead vocals and songwriting, his brother Hideo Sawada on guitar, Shinichi Mori on accordion, and Yoko Nagai as a vocalist. Their song 'Amairo No Kami No Otome' came out in 1966 and became well-known, drawing from a German folk tale.
That song faced some pushback from conservative critics who found its lyrics suggestive, which led to the group being kept off certain TV and radio shows. They kept making music for a few more years, putting out albums like 'Haru to Shura' in 1967 and 'Natsu no Omoide' in 1968. The group broke up in 1969.
