Villagran formed in Buenos Aires around 2006, when three friends, Martín Perea, Matías López, and Nicolás Fernández, started playing together. Their first album came out in 2008, simply called 'Villagran.' They worked with acoustic guitars and harmonies, pulling from folk and rock.
A song called 'Bons Amigos' from their 2010 album became widely known. Other tracks like 'Canção Que Eu Fiz Pra Você' and 'Nostalgia' show their tendency toward reflective, melodic writing. They kept releasing records through the 2010s, including 'El Mundo de Ayer' in 2013 and 'La Ciudad' in 2016.
Perea handles vocals and guitar. The group sometimes addressed social topics in their lyrics, which drew attention beyond just the music. They put out 'Paraíso Perdido' in 2019.
