Vilma Palma e Vampiros formed in Rosario, Argentina in the early 1990s around brothers Mario and Emiliano Bandiera and drummer Gerardo Rios. Their self-titled 1991 debut album included the track "A Donde Vas?" which became widely popular across Latin America.
In 2000, the band's drummer Gerardo Rios died in an accident. The group continued working afterward, releasing albums like La Pachanga and Barco a Venus. They recorded with producer Phil Manzanera at one point.
Their name came from a local Rosario legend, which some found eccentric. The band's sound mixed rock and pop with Latin rhythms over several albums in the 1990s and early 2000s.
