Vince formed in São Paulo in the early 1980s, led by vocalist and lyricist Fernando Barba. Their debut album came out in 1984. The band's sound was hard to pin down, but it connected with people through raw energy and lyrics that actually said something.
Barba's writing often looked at social issues with a kind of sharp, observational humor. Other tracks like 'Calamidade Geral' and 'Saudações Viajantes' carried that same thoughtful, slightly wry tone.
In 1986, Barba was arrested on drug charges, which led to the band breaking up for a while. They reformed later with some different members and kept making music into the 1990s. Their straightforward, questioning style meant they frequently rubbed authorities the wrong way.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
