Vinho Novo formed in Brazil in 1992, started by keyboardist and vocalist Samuel Mizrahy. His brother Joel played guitar, and Ronaldo Barboza was on bass. They played a kind of contemporary pop mixed with gospel, which didn't sit well with some traditional listeners at first. The band kept at it, playing churches and youth events.
Their first album came out in 1993, self-titled like the band. It had 'Todos Devem Conhecer' on it, a song that became widely known in Christian circles. They put out a few more records over the next decade or so, like 'O Nome de Jesus' in 1995 and 'Milagres' in 1997.
Other songs people remember include 'Move-te' and 'Salmo 92.' The name Vinho Novo means 'New Wine,' which fit their approach.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
