Vinho Vinil formed in Rio de Janeiro in 2003 with Gabriel Moura, Rodrigo Tavares, Rodrigo Campos, and Pedro Sá. They started playing small shows around the city, drawing from Brazilian traditions like samba and bossa nova, and from artists like Chico Buarque and Elis Regina.
Their 2007 album 'Brazilian Music' got them wider attention. Songs like 'Ela Não Gosta de Samba' and 'Menina da Pompéia' came from that period. They followed it with 'Carnaval na Rua' in 2009 and 'Circo do Disco' in 2012, which brought in some jazz and soul touches.
By 2016 they'd put out 'Ouro,' an album that looked back at MPB's earlier years and included work with Caetano Veloso and Gilberto Gil. Their catalog also has tracks like 'Enquanto Eu Tiver Voz' and 'Filho Meu.'
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
