Vio-lence came out of the Bay Area thrash scene in the late 1980s. Their 1988 debut album, 'Eternal Nightmare,' gave the genre a few lasting tracks with its title song and 'World in a World.' The band's lineup at that point included vocalist Sean Killian, guitarists Robb Flynn and Phil Demmel, bassist Deen Dell, and drummer Mark Hernandez.
Their 1990 follow-up, 'Oppressing the Masses,' pushed them further into view. The single 'Phobophobia' became a fixture in live sets. But by 1992, Flynn and Demmel had left to start Machine Head, which created a noticeable shift. Vio-lence put out a third album, 'Nothing to Gain,' in 1993, but it didn't connect the same way.
The band went quiet for a long stretch. They came back together in 2019, mostly with the original members aside from Flynn and Demmel, and released a fourth album called 'Let the World Burn' in 2022.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
