Violator formed in Los Angeles in 1981, part of that city's hardcore scene. Their first album came out in 1983, which included the track 'Respect Existence Or Expect Resistance.' The band's lineup featured Steve Hanford on vocals, Pat Dubar on guitar, Mark DiBiase on bass, and Mike King on drums.
They released two more albums in the 1980s, 'War on the Sacred' in 1985 and 'Suburban Nightmare' in 1987. Other songs from their catalog include 'The Plague Never Dies,' 'Addicted To Mosh,' and 'Futurephobia.'
Their lyrics often dealt with political and social themes, which sometimes drew criticism. The song 'Respect Existence Or Expect Resistance' became particularly well-known within hardcore circles for its direct message.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
