Violent Soho formed in Brisbane in 2004 with Luke Boerdam on vocals and guitar, James Tidswell on guitar, Michael Richards on bass, and Luke Henery on drums. They put out a self-titled EP in 2006, but things didn't click right away.
Their second album, 'Hungry Ghost,' came out in 2013 and found a wider audience. Songs like 'Covered In Chrome' and 'Jesus Stole My Girlfriend' had a raw, direct energy that connected. They followed it with 'WACO' in 2016 and 'Everything Is A-OK' in 2020, which had a cleaner, more polished sound compared to their earlier work.
Their music shifted over time from a punkier feel to something more accessible, but they kept a certain intensity in the guitars and Boerdam's lyrics. They were a straightforward rock band from Brisbane that managed to stick around and build a following without much fuss.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
